Cancellation Policies

24-Hour Lesson Cancellation Policy/Make Up Policy

A 24-hour lesson cancellation policy is going to be enforced. However, each student can make up one lesson a month (those lessons are typically scheduled for the third Tuesday and third Saturday of each month as a group lesson on the flat). To cancel or reschedule a lesson that you know you will miss in advance, please let us know by filling out the makeup form.

Camps, Clinics, New Rider Group, Parties, and Other Cancellations

30+ days' notice - 100% minus processing fees
25-29 days notice' - 75% refund
15-24 days notice' - 50% refund

Less than 15 days' notice, no refund unless for a documented medical reason. If there is a documented medical reason there will be a 100% refund minus processing fees.

**Refund policies only apply to camps, clinics, new rider group, parties, and other items purchased at full price unless noted.

Lesson Procedures

  • Please drive slowly (5 mph).  No dogs or other animals are allowed on the property.
  • We expect you to arrive 20 to 30 minutes prior to the start of your lesson so that you can groom and tack up your lesson horse. Showing up with less than 15 minutes before your lesson is scheduled to begin is unacceptable, horsemanship is an extremely important aspect of riding and prep time for your lesson in key.
  • Find your name and the name of the horse you will be riding on the online lesson board - a QR code to this is posted on the tack room door. Special instructions for your horse are also listed there, such as using boots and having a crop on hand. Locate the tack (saddle, bridle and girth), grooming box, plus any other extra equipment needed and place on rack near where you will groom your horse. Bring your horse to the cross-ties to tack up your horse or tack your horse in the stall.
  • Prepare your horse for your lesson. When you are ready, line up at the entry to the arena and wait for your instructor to tell you to enter the lesson arena. Do not mount your horse until instructed to do so. Have your instructor check your tack first.
  • After your lesson, you are expected to untack your horse (unless another student is using your horse in the next lesson). Until you are proficient at untacking you will not be on your own, someone will assist you. Plan to stay 30 minutes after your lesson to care for your horse and clean up after yourself and your horse. Weather conditions may require you to provide additional horse care, such as sponging down, walking a hot horse or removing mud during the rainy season. Please check in with instructor or person assisting with tacking/untacking the lessons to ask if your horse has been properly “turned back” (groomed, blanketed, etc.) prior to leaving.
  • Scheduling Lessons . . . You may schedule lessons by email at [email protected].

Lesson Sessions

School Year Session:  September - May
Summer Session:  May - August
We are run on a subscription lesson schedule. What does that mean to you? Lessons will be broken into 3-month sessions just like swim, dance or karate. You will remain at your assigned lesson slot/level for 3 months. Your instructor will update your On Pointe riding level quarterly and let you know if you are continuing at the same level or moving up to the next level.  If you move up a level you will potentially move to a different lesson time.

Weather Policy

Boulder Pointe Equestrian and Event Center LLC operates under the assumption that its customers want to ride as much as possible, conditions permitting. Here are the horse use parameters governing riding at the farm under harsh conditions, taking into consideration that the rider is well protected and the horses are not stressed.

Extreme Heat:
We draw the line at a heat index of 100 degrees; lessons will be cancelled and there are not makeups for these events.

However, a few degrees above or below 95, for example, are perfectly manageable as long as the horses have access to shade and water and the riding session is not too strenuous and the horses closely monitored. Riders, of course should wear appropriate clothing as well as sunscreen and remain well hydrated. We will substitute a ground work or On Pointe Horse Knowledge lesson, especially at the lower levels.
In doubt: Call: 612-741-0130

Extreme Cold:
We are fortunate to be able to ride in a heated arena. However, travel to and from the farm that poses a risk to our students and staff will be mitigated by cancelling lessons when there is a weather warning. We will call and email to notify students and families. There are not make ups for these events.
In doubt: Call: 612-741-0130

Hail, Thunderstorms, Lightening:
Lessons will be canceled for hail, thunderstorms, and/or lightning. There are not make ups for these events.

In case of a light drizzle or intermittent rain, lessons go on. Note that the only ones that are really affected by the rain are the instructors but, appropriately protected from the elements, they are more than happy to go on with the lessons. Generally speaking, if you drive with your windshield wipers on “intermittent,” the lesson is likely to take place. We sometimes substitute a ground work or On Pointe Horse Knowledge lesson, especially at the lower levels. Also if it rains where you are, it does not always mean that it is raining here. Please call the farm before deciding NOT to come.
In doubt: Call: 612-741-0130

Air Quality:
When a code red air quality alert is sent out, that means air pollution concentrations are unhealthy for the general population and outdoor activity should be avoided. If the air quality is in the very unhealthy or hazardous range, chances are an emergency alert will be issued by media outlets, weather apps and more. If this is the case, lessons will be cancelled and everyone should avoid going outside and being exposed to the air as much as possible. There are not make ups for these events.
In doubt: Call: 612-741-0130

REMEMBER: Whether riding lessons are canceled or not, our staff are still out in the barn working either way. It’s challenging sometimes, but animals still need to be cared for and horses still need to be trained! We never cancel for our benefit — we are trying to keep our riders and our horses as safe and comfortable as possible.

Thank you!
From all of us at Boulder Pointe

Trail Riding

Trail rides are allowed during lessons, with an instructor, based on the riders' On Pointe level:
  • Rainbow - in hand walk only
  • Red - in hand walk only
  • Orange - walk only
  • Yellow - walk only
  • Green - walk & trot
  • Blue+ - walk, trot, canter
Leasers are allowed to walk only on trail rides.
Boarders may ride at their own discretion.
For everyone - no riding in the middle of the hay field - stay to the sides!

Protocols for Boarders and Leasers in Indoor Arena During Lessons

During colder weather months where all lessons are in the indoor arena, boarders and leasers will coordinate their time in the arena with the instructor. There are specific times on the Online Lesson Board blocked for only boarders and leasers. During lessons we will follow these guidelines:
  • During Group Lessons: walk only for others, no lunging
  • During Semi-Private and Private Lessons: share the arena
  • During course week: no usage whatsoever

Social Media Policy

  • Be respectful: Don't post information that others have asked you not to, and remove photos or videos of other people's horses if they ask you to.
  • Be safe: Avoid posting selfies while mounted, as this can be dangerous if the horse spooks or trips. Instead, ask a friend to hold the horse for you.
  • Be conscious of others: Remember that your posts reflect on your barn, instructor, and barn-mates.
  • Be positive: Don't post videos or photos of falls, bucking, injuries, etc.
